Meet The Board

Todd Willis
Board Chairman

Todd has been working at Porter-Starke Services since November 2000 and has been serving children and their families for over 20 years.  During this time period he has worked with a variety of children, adolescents, and their families in a number of setting including schools, hospitals, residential, day treatment, outpatient and the juvenile detention setting. His current role of Director of Community Engagement with Porter Starke Services allows him to work closely in the community with the goal of decreasing mental health and addiction stigma.  In addition, Todd has a passion to help people build protective factors and develop strategies to prevent mental health, addiction and suicide from developing within themselves and their families.  He is a licensed mental health counselor and a licensed clinical addiction counselor in the state of Indiana and Missouri. Todd also serves on several community boards including:  The Starke County Community Corrections Advisory Board, Hope Restored Recovery Home Board of Directors, Porter County Drug Juvenile Drug Court, Porter County Juvenile Justice Advisory Board, and Porter County Tobacco Prevention and Education Coalition, PATH Board. PC Substance Free, Porter County Substance Abuse Council, and the STOP Board.  In addition, Todd sits on both the adolescent and adult drug courts in Porter County.   

 

Todd lives in Porter County with his wife Kendra, their 12 year old daughter and their 8 year old son.  He is an avid musician and is very involved in his local community. 

Charissa Lucas
Board Treasurer

Charissa has been a Starke County resident all her life. She graduated from North Judson-San Pierre High School and went on to get degrees in Marketing and Management from Taylor University. After graduating, she came back to North Judson with a desire to be a part of a community change; she has a passion and desire to see lives changed for the better. With a few friends she took part in starting a coffee brewery that had a mission of bringing relationships, jobs, and community together. She’s currently working at Common Collabs as the logistics supervisor and is excited to be a part of Hope Restored.

Megan Johnston
Vice Chairman

Megan grew up in Plainfield, Indiana with her mom. At the age of 18, Megan began using drugs and at 19, became addicted to heroin. After three years of substance use, she entered a treatment facility and fought for a year and a half to overcome her addiction. Since then, Megan has committed her life to helping people who experience substance use disorders. She previously worked as the coordinator of a Recovery Connection in Valparaiso, IN and also worked  at a Maximum Security Prison, counseling men who experience substance use disorders. She is a Certified Recovery Specialist and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Consultant II and she is in the process of obtaining her Master's Degree in Social Work. Megan currently works with Porter-Starke Services and the Starke County Circuit Court as a case manager for the Starke Circuit Court Recovery Program. Megan has a heart to see the most hurting people healed, and the most broken people set free. She lives in North Judson, IN with her husband Jesse and their four kitties, Milo, Nellie, Simon, and Lewis. 

Jesse Johnston
Board Secretary

Jesse has lived in Starke County for the past 25 years. He graduated from Knox High School and then went on to get a Bachelor’s degree in education from Bethel College. He worked at Knox High School for two years, and then taught for three years at an alternative high school in Knox called The Crossing. While there, he was exposed first hand to some of the serious issues Starke County faces such as poverty, broken homes, and substance abuse. He was impacted in a major way and is determined to be a part of restoring hope and healing to this community. Jesse currently works at CounterTop Pros and lives in North Judson with his wife Megan.

Ryan Wellman
Board Member

Ryan grew up in Alabama on the Gulf Coast, and moved to Indiana in 2011. He loves everything outdoors from hiking, fishing, hunting, kayaking, camping, grilling, and gardening. Currently Ryan works in inside sales for American Roller company. He met his wife at Cornerstone Community Church in Kouts and they have a 2 year old little girl and a little boy due this summer. Ryan has volunteered in the Biblical Life Principle pod in Porter County Jail. He has also, helped facilitate a recovery home in Kouts, for guys coming out of the Biblical Life Principle Pod for a few years. He has a heart for helping those in need and seeking help.

Kerry Slaga
Board Member

Kerry grew up in the Western Suburbs of Chicago, until moving to Northwest Indiana in 2018, where she obtained Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Biology from Valparaiso University. Kerry has been working at the Porter County Sheriff’s Office as a Jail Case Manager since 2021. In this role, she assists individuals in transitioning out of an incarcerated setting, back into the community by connecting them to sober living homes, treatment programs, and community resources. Kerry has a passion for both Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Recovery, with an emphasis on making sure that every voice feels heard. Kerry is also a part of the Porter County Mental Health Restoration Court Team and the Porter County Alternative Sentencing Team.
